Ingredients
There are just four simple ingredients in this homemade biscuit mix. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Flour: Use all-purpose flour. You can also use whole-wheat flour if you want a bit more fiber.
- Baking Powder: This is what helps the biscuits rise.
- Salt: Use fine salt because it mixes into the dough better.
- Butter: For the best taste, use real, unsalted butter. Remember to keep it cold right up until you add it to the mix.
How to make homemade Bisquick mix
There are two ways to make this mix. You can either use a mixing bowl or a food processor. I gave you the steps for both methods in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. Here’s a quick recap of both methods, as well.
In a mixing bowl
You don’t need any electrical gadgets for this method! First, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, cut the butter into the flour mixture using a pastry blender or a fork.
After the butter and flour mixture are completely combined, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three months.
With a food processor
This is just like the mixing bowl method, above. First, add the flour, baking powder, and salt to the food processor. Pulse it to combine everything. Then, Add the butter and pulse it until the mixture is coarse and resembles cornmeal.
Then, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three months.
How to make biscuits with homemade Biscuit mix
When you’re ready to make homemade biscuits, just follow these directions.
Add the homemade Bisquick to a mixing bowl with ½ a cup of milk. You can use any type of milk, as long as it is unsweetened and unflavored. Mix it gently, until a soft dough forms.
Lightly flour your table or countertop, and roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it is ½-inch thick. Use a round cookie cutting to cut out your biscuits.
You can also drop them directly onto your baking sheet, but you just have to make sure they are all the same size so they bake evenly.
Finally, bake them for about 7-9 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
