Shanghai Braised Pork

Braised pork belly over rice or bun - a classic Chinese dish where pork is slowly cooked until tender and flavorful. And now you can make it at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups chopped green onions
  • 2- inch ginger
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2- star anise
  • 1.5 lb pork belly
  • 1.5 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons shaoshing wine
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rock sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  • In a slow cooker, add green onion, ginger, bay leaves, and star anise. Cook for 15 minutes.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients, except balsamic vinegar, and toss to coat. Cover and cook until the meat is tender, on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Add balsamic vinegar and adjust the seasoning.
