On another fun note, the big game day is here, folks! I love mingling with a big group on the big game day since I am such a hardcore football fan. Oh wait, let me try again. I love the big game day because of…food. I mean it’s the Super Bowl, so game day food has never been more appropriate and these crab rangoons would be perfect.
This attempt to make crab rangoon was inspired by local Chinese restaurants. Crab rangoon is a common dish and a perfect bite-sized delight for any occasion. Not only that, but this is also easy to make and takes less than 5 ingredients. So easy that even an amateur in the kitchen can make this. I’m using imitation crab in this recipe since the hubs is allergic to shellfish. Plus, almost all Chinese restaurants use imitation crab to make this recipe. One great thing about this bite-sized appetizer is that you can either deep-fry these crab rangoons or bake them in the oven. No one would ever believe that these crispy bites are actually baked.
Crab Rangoon
Ingredients
- 8 ounces whipped cream cheese
- 3 ounces white crab meat drained and flaked or 3 imitation crabs, finely diced
- 3 green onions sliced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon water
- Wonton wrappers
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Combine cream cheese, crab meat, and green onions in a medium bowl.
- Place about 1-2 tsp of cream cheese filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Dab some water on the outer edges of the wrapper and fold the two ends of the wrapper together. Fold the other two ends and make sure they are seal tight. Repeat with all remaining wonton wrappers and filling.
- To fry: heat oil to 375F in a deep frying pot. Fry the wontons in small batches for 15-20 seconds or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- To bake: preheat the oven to 350F. Spray the cupcake pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place 1 filled wonton wrapper in each cup and bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve with sweet and sour sauce.
In case you are not a football fan, there is still a reason to make this and here are some other recipes, perfect for game day appetizers or even an after-school snack.

Great idea of entertaining, even after the game! Love the serving size too, but great flavors with crab and cream cheese in a wonton! Thank you for this recipe!
Cheryl Kohan says
Although these look absolutely scrumptious and I DO love crab rangoon, I wonder if there’s a way to bake them? I’m trying so hard to cut back on fat.
I got an air fryer from my daughter and I think I’ll see if I can use it for this recipe! Will let you know how it comes out.
Linda says
Absolutely! The result is less oily and more like baked results. You’ll like it too especially when you’re trying to cut down oil
