This Durian Burnt Cheesecake takes the simplest and most decadent cheesecake recipe ever to a whole new level. An easy recipe worth the time and the calories!
Obviously, I’m super late in this basque burnt cheesecake trend. But, this durian burnt cheesecake recipe is about to rock your world. And you won’t be blamed for burning your cheesecake. *pinky swear* After all, it is durian burnt cheesecake!
But first, durian!
You can either hate it or love it. Known as the king of fruits, durian has a strong odor and thorn-covered rind. You usually eat the meat as you open it or in a sweet dessert, such as palm sugar sauce or savory form, such as fried rice (Yes, Durian fried rice!). Durian has many levels of sweetness and alcohol, but for sure we enjoy eating it!
What is Basque burnt cheesecake?
In short, it is a crustless cheesecake with a creamy texture that is baked at a high temperature. Hence, it gets that beautiful burnt exterior but creamy filling.
By far, this is the easiest cheesecake recipe I’ve tried. Imagine how stressful it is when baking cheesecake – the right temperature, the thickness of its crust, water bath, and so on. You can pretty much ignore most of them when baking this basque burnt cheesecake. And to make it fun, I turn it into durian basque burnt cheesecake!
The ingredients for durian burnt cheesecake
- Durian flesh. The main star of this recipe. You can get durian from a local Asian market in the frozen section
- Cream cheese. Use a block of cream cheese, not a spread, and be sure to use cream cheese at room temperature
- Egg. I use medium-size egg
- Sugar, flour. I use all-purpose flour in this recipe; however, you can also replace that with cornflour to bind this cheesecake
- Whipped cream. Can be replaced with heavy cream
Important notes
- Add extra 2-inches of parchment paper above the pan since the cheesecake will puff up quite a bit when baked.
- Each durian has a different level of sweetness so adjust your sugar level accordingly. Check out Durian Writer to learn more about durian.
- When using frozen durian, wait until it is thawed to open
- Every oven has a different temperature; however, this recipe lets you bake your cheesecake longer; however, place a closer look when you bake.
- You can also use a broiler in the oven to burn the top part of the cheesecake. To do so, turn the broiler option to 475F and bake for 2-3 minutes, or until you reach the desired burnt effect.
Can I bake this in an air fryer?
I believe so! To bake in an air fryer, preheat the air fryer at 400F. Bake for 10 minutes at 400F; then lower it to 350F and continue bake for 10-15 minutes.
Storing durian burnt cheesecake
Let the cheesecake cool down and store in the fridge overnight (or a few hours) before serving. Any leftovers should be kept in the fridge for up to 1 week…although I can’t guarantee there will be leftovers.
In short, this burnt cheesecake is a famous cheesecake recipe known for disregarding the norms of cheesecake recipes. And I hope you get a chance to try this durian burnt cheesecake recipe! And if you have durian leftovers, add that to this pukis cake.
