How to Make Mini Pancakes Batter
Making little pancakes is simple and super easy.
First, you’ll have to make the pancake batter. Add the dry ingredients, such as flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, to a large bowl and whisk them together. Then, add all the wet ingredients to the mixture and mix.
Make sure the mixture is not too thick or too thin–you want a smooth, pourable consistency that keeps your miniature pancakes in shape.
If the pancake batter becomes too thick, add one or two tablespoons of milk to thin it out. If it’s too thin, add a tablespoon or half of flour for consistency.
How to Shape Mini Pancakes
There are many ways to shape small pancakes.
The easiest option is to use a condiment squeeze bottle—even an empty ketchup bottle works or anything that gives you that mini pancake shape you want.
Alternatively, you can use a small piping bag to dollop the right batter. Or go with a ziplock bag and make a small hole for piping – sized enough to squeeze the batter quickly.
If you have none of these tools, a small ladle or even the back of the teaspoon works, too.
If you want crispier pancakes, keep them smaller (the size of a dime coin). For softer, fluffy ones, a larger size–around 1 inch—would do the job.
How to Cook Mini Pancakes
- Preheat the pan or griddle over medium-low heat. This prevents sticking and gives that perfect golden brown color and crispy edges.
- Pour your pancake batter into the squeezing bottle or piping bag, or use any tool to transfer the batter to the pan.
- Slightly grease the pan with butter and squeeze the batter onto it. Leaving enough space between each mini pancake so they don’t touch one another.
- Cook pancakes for 2 to 3 minutes or until you see them bubble. Use a small spatula to gently flip the little pancakes when the edges appear set and bubbles have formed. Cook until golden brown.
- If they’re cooking too fast or you see a darker color with a dull look, reduce the heat.
- Once both sides are nicely cooked, transfer your cute little pancakes to a serving bowl.
You’re done!
Serve these mini pancakes hot with your favorite topping: maple syrup, bananas, juicy berries, chocolate chips, whipped cream, or anything else you want. Be creative here!
