The ingredients
Making miso hot chocolate is so easy and only requires four ingredients.
- Chocolate. I use dark chocolate and the texture is similar to drinking chocolate. It has a deeper stronger chocolatey texture compared to regular hot chocolate. If you prefer something sweet, semi-sweet chocolate works, too
- Milk. Use whole milk or oatmilk for a better deeper taste
- Maple syrup to sweeten this hot chocolate
- Miso to add the umami flavor to this hot chocolate
- Topping: marshamallows or whipping cream
How to make salted hot chocolate
- Combine milk, chocolate, and maple syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir with a whisk vigorously to remove any clumps
- Reduce the heat to low when it starts to bubble; then add miso paste. Keep whisking until miso paste is dissolved. Pour into a mug and enjoy

Miso for hot chocolate

From 3 ways how to cook miso butter salmon, ramen, grilled corn, to miso butter toast where I share everything I know about miso. I recommend using white miso for hot chocolate as it has a mild flavor and subtle sweetness which blends well with this hot chocolate.
Oat milk miso hot chocolate
Not a fan of whole milk? Make oat hot chocolate with oat milk. Oat milk also makes the best vegan milk for hot chocolate.
Sugar-free miso hot chocolate
You can make it a sugar-free miso hot chocolate for substituting maple syrup with sugar-free syrup.

Keto miso hot chocolate
The good news is miso is considered low carbs and keto-friendly. So, to make this miso hot chocolate a keto version, you will need to use keto chocolate and substitute maple syrup with erythritol or sugar-free syrup.
Variations
Make this salted miso chocolate drink more fun with additional toppings, such as marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or chocolate sprinkles.
